CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall’s Downtown Business Improvement Area is heralding city council’s decision to waive parking enforcement in municipal small business districts.
The above image shows the area impacted by the decision.
In order to promote a shop local campaign, both Le Village and the DBIA partnered with the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce to request that city hall waive parking enforcement beginning at 4 p.m. for the month of December. Parking is typically enforced until 6 p.m. on weekdays.
But city council took the request one step further and waived the parking enforcement rules beginning Nov. 15. Now shoppers can park for free beginning at 4 p.m. until the end of the year.
“City council made a decision with plenty of forethought,” said Centretown Coordinator Todd Lihou. “This kind of a decision shows city council’s commitment to small business and a shop-local philosophy and we couldn’t be happier with how our request is being received.
“City council and the City of Cornwall deserves all the credit for the positive response to our request.”
