CORNWALL, Ontario – If you’re looking for a taste of India, but don’t feel like taking a 16-hour flight to New Delhi, downtown Cornwall has you covered.
The newly opened Tandoor House, located at 25 Second Street East, specializes in Indian food including curry, naan bread and samosas that will leave your mouth watering for more.
“We’re providing real Indian authentic food so customers don’t have to travel to Ottawa or Montreal,” said co-owner Yogi Patel. “And the people – they love it.”
Patel has opened the restaurant with his friend Sushiel Patel and the reviews thus far have been positive.
“It’s Indian and Canadian but our focus is on Indian,” said Yogi. “We don’t have any real authentic Indian food in Cornwall and I’ve been here for almost 12 years and I own the Subways, and people have always asked me ‘Why don’t you open an Indian restaurant?’
“We decided to lease here and open a full dining restaurant.”
Chicken vindaloo, lamb curry and even a fish curry can be found on the menu. And the best part is it’s as authentic as taking a walk through the outdoor markets in India.
“This is real authentic taste,” said Yogi. “Each curry is made from more than 40 spices. We have covered all the bases. We also have local Canadian food like burgers and chicken.
“But mainly we are experts in Indian food.”
Tandoor House is open every day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Delivery and takeout services are provided and by downloading the ‘Skip the Dishes’ app to your device, you can place online orders for a delicious Indian meal.
